The climate crisis is devastating lives across the Horn of Africa.
Communities in Ethiopia, Somalia and Kenya are among the hardest hit by the climate crisis. They face the compounding effects of extreme weather including prolonged droughts followed by flash floods. These conditions are fuelling hunger, displacement and conflict.
Water sources are drying up during prolonged droughts, while flash floods destroy crops and homes, forcing families to flee in search of food, clean water and safety. Livestock are dying from lack of water and grazing land, further threatening livelihoods. With resources and opportunities growing scarce, conflict is rising and pushing even more people to flee.
At the same time, food prices are skyrocketing because of the full-scale war in Ukraine, making it harder for vulnerable families to survive.

UNHCR is providing displaced families with relief items, emergency shelter and clean water.
After losing majority of their livestock in the drought, Diyaro and her eight children left their home in Somalia and fled to Dadaab refugee camp in Kenya.
"I lost the only source of livelihood I had to the drought," says Diyaro. "But I am glad that I haven't lost my children to hunger."
